Still kicking...

In between countless other jobs, tasks and naps, I've been putting together a quilt to welcome a new baby into the world - he actually arrived a couple of weeks ago so I'm a bit behind the 8 ball......

Now, way back when, when I found out that my friend was expecting, I said I'd make her a baby a quilt so what colours would she like?  Like the good irish wife she is, she said 'green and orange' and so a collection of said hues was made - and a week or so ago, I came across this awesome quilt top here and in a fit of inspired sewing..................

........................got this far.........

I'm thinking this needs sashing and cornerstones (the border I have picked out is green, aqua and white tartanish - should have included it in the photo but not sure if it'll be the one)

I'm thinking white sashing but not sure what colour for the cornerstones - according to the colourwheel, the triad would include purple, but there's no other purple anywhere in the fabrics, then maybe I could use brown (there's brown birdies and owls) but it's a bit 'meh'......decisions, decisions..................

Any suggestions?

  1. It's great! Actually I think brown could look nice if it was a "good" brown and not a "meh" brown!:-)

  2. I'd go for brown, but then I would also need all the fabrics in front of me to really decide. It is going to be a lovely quilt though.

  3. I'm rubbish at picking out colours, so won't give any advise! The quilt looks great

  4. Don't use purple for a good Irish person lol I'd go with the white sashing and the brown for cornerstones

  5. Why not try an analogous colour scheme - 3-6 adjacent colours on the wheel. Then you could work with Red and yellow and the various tints and shades. Mind you, the longer I look at it. The more I like the idea of purple....it would really help the orange and green to pop :)
PS: can you tell I spent all,day on colour charts at TAFE today, lol :)

  6. They look gorgeous! Given your border colours I think I'd also go for white sashing and brown cornerstones…but then I am a complete sucker for white!

  7. It is lovely! I would skip the cornerstones entirely and use white sashing. I am sure that whatever you use will be lovely.

  8. It's lovely! I'd either skip the cornerstones or use squares of the same fabrics you've used in the block but make it so that the cornerstone isn't the same fabric as the four blocks around it (if that makes any sense at all?!)...good luck deciding, I could dither about something like that for days!

  9. Oh my goodness! I love this! But of course I would... Lol I love the white sashing but if it was me I wouldn't go with cornerstones. I don't know, I am just a clean and simple gal. Thanks for the credit, I can't wait to see what you come up with!
