Things make you go "Hmmmmm"

I decided to pull out a fat 1/4 stash I've had forever - Authentic by Sweetwater - and ran up some blocks based on a quilt I'd seen recently - I added one solid, thinking the restricted palette of the range would work it's magic and morph into a sophisticated quilt....but, it didn't.....I put the blocks onto the design wall and I don't like it....it needs something....I think it's a bit blah - anyone have any suggestions??

  1. it's no doubt beautifully made...but you're right, it's not quite popping is it? I remember this range of fabric, the colours are very subtle. A brighter tone of the green as a border? Is it too late to separate the blocks in some way. either individually or in rows or bigger blocks? Good luck :)

  2. Appliqué something onto it so that this becomes the background and you add bright spots of colour - flowers, trees, whatever. Or if it is not too difficult take off a bit of each block and add in a bright colour like chartreuse, hot pink, turquoise.

  3. I like it as it is, but if its not happening for you I would add in a few small squares in a bright colour (maybe red?) and see if you like it. You could alway just lay a square on top and see what you think?
I always loved this quilt http://www.flickr.com/photos/amygunson/6074890384/in/faves-48813034@N04/

  4. Maybe some black or chartreuse? Or both!

  5. You could sash/put a row of color between these or add a border of color/solid around the blocks. :)

  6. I'd probably break it down and do a square of blocks and then a thin border , then more blocke around that border and a wider border to finish it off.

  7. Authentic is one of my most favourite ever lines, I have a bit hiding in my closet too. I like this and I think it will grow on you a lot but if it is not, I would take the blocks apart and add a lot of neutrals to frame the blocks as the focal points of much larger blocks, with irregular spacing for the focal part.

  8. I think it's gorgeous, too, but also like Leanne's suggestion! Everyone has such good ideas. xo
