A question
One of the items on my winter/summer sewing list was to make hexagons for a quilt - these are using templates and are stitched by hand....well, I finished the hexagons (one of the great things about camping - time to sit and sew!) and have put the top together (by machine I might add!)- it needs a couple of borders but 'plain' borders don't seem to be right - I'm thinking pieced borders.......what do you think?

I'm thinking......
ReplyDeleteYay for battling the hexies into submission!
ReplyDeleteHave you considered a dark border rather than the light one you used? That might make all the gorgeous rich shades used in the hexies stand out and frame them better. I think a pieced border might take away from the hexies unless there was something separating them from the hexies.
ReplyDeleteThe hexies pieced together are simply stunning though!
Those hexies are wonderful. I agree with Susan, a dark border, pieced or single fabric will make them stand out.
ReplyDeleteYep, I think you're right about adding a pieced border to what you've got here. Not sure what, but picking up colours/fabric you used in the hexies?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you choose
Pieced is my vote! Subtle color hsts? Or...print and dark solid hsts like a triangle/sawtooth effect? Endless possibilities :)
ReplyDeleteI think a dark border would frame them beautifully, they look lovely.
ReplyDeleteFinished thinking - I would go for a plain border. Choose a colour from the quilt that you want to 'pop' and then bind it with a shade or two darker to enhance a frame effect.
ReplyDeleteQuilting Advisory: This is just my humble opinion - you must go with what your eye and heart tells you :)
Scrappy border? Looks great!
